The center was built in 1951 by San Francisco Bay Area legend Myron Spaulding. Spaulding purchased the property and constructed the Spaulding Boatworks to build his own designs. Many of his boats are still active on the West Coast, and his design drawings are housed at the National Historic Maritime Museum.
During regular time the Spaulding Marine Center is open to the public to view historical items within the Boathouse. Currently during COVID we are closed to the general public, however we are open for business in the boat yard.
2021 makes the 70th year of the Spaulding Marine Center when Myron Spaulding first purchased the land here in Sausalito, California and built the boathouse and decking area for the shipyard. He designed, built and restored vessels from this location till his death in _____.
2021 also marks the 21st year of the Spaulding Marine Centers non profit status with its creation of a trust by Myron’s wife Gladdy when she passed away in 2000.
Spaulding Marine Center continues today to benefit the community and offer both youth and adult educational programs. This year we are initiating Boatworks 101 a marine Apprenticeship program which will bring a new group of young adults through a 15 month marine systems training program and prepare them for careers in the Marine industry. Students will have hands on experience in many areas of the marine industry and have the opportunity to hear and learn from many of the Craftsmen currently in the field today through our volunteer craftsmen.
